HDR lighting in BMRT - 10 November 2000

High dynamic rage imaging with RenderMan

This is a quick test of High Dynamic range lighting in BMRT. This uses a slightly different technique than Paul Debevec's Radiance method - I am not sure if it is faster yet as the code needs optimising - especially to reduce noise. This image is based on some of the Newtek HDR examples - more original shots to come soon. Thanks to Sean O'Malley and Eliza Ra for kindly programming and a useful insight repsectively :o).

More information on this techique will be available later. Click on the image to download a movie of the scene. (2.85Mb uncompressed QuickTime) Model from 3dcafe.com HDR image from Paul debevec's website.

High dynamic rage imaging with RenderMan

I have improved the sampling and the HDRI images now look a lot better and suffer much less from grain - of course the rendering times have also gone up accordingly. The model is the same, but I changed the hdr image I used as I was getting bored of it :o)
